Optimizing Cold Email Strategy: Insights from MailDoso's Expert Q&A

Questions for Founder & CEO of MailDoso

In the world of digital marketing, there's a lot of buzz around using Google Mail and Outlook Mail for sending cold emails. However, these mainstream platforms often fall short when it comes to deliverability and avoiding spam filters. The struggle with Google and Outlook is that their inner workings are often opaque, and they're actively trying to prevent their services from being used for cold email campaigns. You can't simply ask Google or Outlook why your emails aren't delivering.

Enter MailDoso—a private email server designed specifically for cold email campaigns. To shed light on how MailDoso can optimize your cold email strategy, we conducted an in-depth Q&A with Nikita, an expert from MailDoso. Here’s what we learned.

Question:
You mentioned that private infrastructure where each person has their own IP doesn't work long-term. How is this different from a scaled version of that? If a few people are not good at cold email, it could hurt the deliverability and reputation of everyone else. What's the solution to this?

Nikita:
We have found a solution. Large IP pools, along with our numerous innovations, work exceptionally well. Our customers rarely notice any IP-related issues. If problems do occur, they affect less than 0.5% of your daily sending volume. A single IP cannot be effective, even for opt-in emails, as you will inevitably face deliverability issues.

Question:
Where are you buying domains from? How does that process work? Places like NameCheap are known for affecting deliverability, even when using Google Workspace. (I've tested this).

Nikita:
The domain registrar does not impact deliverability. We use Dynadot.

Question:
Right now, everything is in 3-month packages. If a domain gets burned after 2 months or I need to switch out a domain, how does that work? What's the cost of switching domains?

Nikita:
If a domain gets burned, you can put it on pause and continue warming it up for 2-3 weeks until it recovers. Alternatively, you can delete the domain from your MailDoso account, buy a new one, and reuse the mailbox licenses. Currently, we only offer quarterly and yearly billing.

Question:
My initial cold email package is 4 months long. Is there a way to add a 1-month extension so that I'm not committing to 3 more months without having a signed contract from my client?

Nikita:
Currently, we only offer quarterly and yearly billing.

Question:
Standard cold email practice is 2-3 email addresses per domain. Why does MailDoso use 4?

Nikita:
Using up to 5 mailboxes per domain is completely fine and effective.

Question:
How do you know something's broken within your cold email tech stack? For example, if an email address gets burned or there is a deliverability issue.

Nikita:
We have developed various technologies to address these issues. Currently, blacklists are not a problem for us. For burned domains, we are going to release a feature that notifies you if a domain is burned. Alternatively, you can run a spam test on mailreach.co. If you send a neutral email (no sales copy) and it lands in spam, the domain is burned.

Question:
How can I ensure my email sequences are not flagged as spam, and how can I check the condition of my domains?

Nikita:
I highly recommend checking your sequences for spam words. Only the first email matters; you don't need to clean follow-ups.

Common spam words that were removed include:

  • "multi-billion dollar"

  • "financial partner"

  • "investing our capital"

  • "purchase your business outright"

  • "Reply to this email"

  • "open to a quick chat"

  • "cash"

  • "no thanks"

You can use Mailmeteor's Spam Checker to check your copy.

Question:
If a client wants to do a "buy-out" where they purchase all the infrastructure I've built for them, how can MailDoso help facilitate the transfer of those domains/email addresses?

Nikita:
You can reach out to our support team. We can transfer your mailboxes and domains to the client.

Conclusion:

If you're struggling with cold email deliverability, want to diversify between Google/Outlook consider giving MailDoso a try. I personally use MailDoso on multiple accounts with great success.
